{{More than 600 Local Defence Forces in Gicumbi district were on July 7 re-integrated as a new organ called District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO) is set to take over.}}
Senior Supt. Felix Bizimana, while speaking at the official send-off party, lauded their role in ensuring security in communities in the past years of their dedicated voluntary work.
As they go back into normal life, SSP Bizimana urged them to use their policing experience to partner with communities to further ensure safety and security.
He also appealed to them to be catalysts in the implementation of security initiatives like neighbourhood watch and community-based policing.
“When talking of crime prevention, you can’t ignore the role played by Local Defence to apprehend wrongdoers like drug dealers,” he said.
“Being reintegrated in the community doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue to work with security organs to ensure safety where you live. Ensuring safety and security, as is the norm, is the responsibility of every Rwandan and I have no doubt you will also continue with this noble cause,” district mayor, Alexandre Mvuyekure said.
