Genocide survivors seek further sponsorship, reparations

Genocide survivors that have been supported by the government through the education system have requested for further sponsorship to the Masters degree level to fully hone their skills and be more competent in the labor market. The need to conduct advocacies for the matter was raised on 5th March, 2016 during the 15th Congress of IBUKA, umbrella of genocide survivors.

Under the ordinary support, the youth, genocide survivors would be sponsored until the university degree.

“Participants of the meeting request FARG to think about sponsoring young genocide survivors to masters degree as a bid to facilitate young genocide survivors at the labor market, “reads the resolutions of the congress.

Among other decisions passed during the congress, participants requested for immediate resolution of cases related to property destroyed during the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, follow up on the reparations and court hearings of people convicted of genocide crime in Gacaca.

The congress discussed remembrance events and confirmed the need to make advocacies mobilizing all districts to set a budget of renovating memorials sites including those in neighboring countries where genocide victims are buried and asked reinforcement in according decent burial to genocide victims.
