Gen Kabarebe to media: Support national interests

The Minister of Defense, Gen James Kabarebe, has advised Rwandan media fraternity to desist from working with enemies of the state but serve national interests that foster unity and development.

Kabarebe who was giving a talk on “Liberation War and Reconstructing Rwanda” to over 100 journalists attending National Itorero held in Nkumba, Northern Province, said the country has taken giant developments steps, reconstructed infrastructures and mindset and built patriotism and nationalism amongst Rwandans.

He said that some foreign media firms act as spy agents especially in poor countries, an act that should not be allowed to gnaw on Rwanda media.

“All media around the World promote the interests of their countries. Our media cannot accept to be manipulated by foreign media or enemies. Such manipulation should be eliminated and commit to engage in our country’s development and consolidating attained progress,“ he said, further appealing to journalists not to undermine Rwandan army or unity of Rwandans.

Journalists in the National Itorero have also expressed willingness to play their role in sustaining integrity and unity of the country.

During this edition of National Itorero for journalists called ‘Impamyabigwi mu nkomezamihigo’, participants have pledged maximum support in the ongoing process of reconstructing the country, sharing Rwanda’s achievements with the world.

Journalists were explained that the National Itorero organized is not meant to threaten media freedom but a period of evaluation and seeking values that should guide journalists.
