Gen. Kabarebe hails the role of Military Courts

Gen James Kabarebe, the Minister of Defence on 24 November 2014 said that the Military Courts Registrars play a significant role in delivering and enhancing justice in RDF and the country.

He disclosed this during the swearing in ceremony of six new registrars of Military Tribunal and Military High Court.
“RDF leadership lauds the significant role played by military registrars in delivering justice in the country. That’s why the Leadership requested the Government to approve your appointment so that you compliment your colleagues,” Defence Minister said.

The cabinet session of 9th June 2014 appointed S/Maj Habimana Corneille, Sgt Kintu Alphonse, Sgt Munyaneza Bernard and Sgt Umuhoza Abdulkarim as registrars at the Military Tribunal based in Nyamirambo, Kigali. The same Cabinet session appointed Sgt Mutabaruka Sylvain and Sgt Rutayisire Jonas as registrars at the Military High Court.

According to Article 170 of Organic Law no 51/2008 of 9/9/2008 determining Organisation, functioning and jurisdiction of courts, the appointed registrars in Military Tribunal and Military High Court take oath before the Minister having Defence is his/her attributions.

Hon. Minister Kabarebe said the Ministry of Defence and RDF are committed to collaborating with other stakeholders, like the Ministry of Justice, to ensure they receive periodical training that will enable them to deliver timely justice. He recalled that the RDF takes justice as one of the strongest pillars of national development.

The swearing ceremony was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, Service Chiefs, Generals and Senior Officers of the Rwanda Defence Forces.
