Commercial motorcyclists operating in Gatsibo District have been cautioned against breaching road traffic rules, which continues to contribute to cause accidents and loss of lives.
This was during a meeting between police and the motorcyclists held on December 18.
Inspector of Police (IP) Jean Bosco Bucyangenda, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) observed that abusing traffic rules has led to “preventable deaths” and lifetime injuries largely due to over speed and riding carelessly.
IP Bucyangenda acknowledged the existing cooperation between the police and commercial Motorcyclists but warned that no laxity should be entertained since wrongdoers are always on the lookout for the loopholes.
He also told them to be cautious of the passengers and their luggage they transport and immediately report anything suspicious to police.
“Don’t ignore anything suspicious, just call the police for investigation to establish the truth,” said IP Bucyangenda.
He said police has a deliberate policy to engage with the public through community policing in sustaining peace and security to allow the economic development to flourish.
“We want the citizenry to be part of crime prevention strategies through, mainly, sharing information to detect and prevent illegal activities,” he said.
Aloys Rwabarinda, the head of the motorcycle cooperative in Gatsibo also noted that there are some individuals in their profession who continue to tarnish their image, a habit he condemned and appealed to members to do away with and fight.
