Residents as well as drivers using Gatsata-Karuruma-Gatuna road have said lack of road lights is a major cause of accidents during night hours.
Heavy Trucks and other long vehicles use the road from Kigali to Uganda.
Although the road has been rehabilitated, drivers also said the road is narrow and unlit.
“Sometimes vehicles crush pedestrians and continue their journey without stopping so that the witnesses cannot identify the identity of the vehicle,” one truck Driver said.
Residents in Gatsata have been asking reason why the road is lightened.
The executive Secretary of Gatsata Kabanda Joseph said plans to light the road are underway.
In 2011, Kigali City has started to allocate budgeted to be spent on lighting up all major roads around the capital.
