Gasabo residents urged to be active against drug abuse

Residents of Kangondo Village, Nyarutarama Cell, Remera sector in Gasabo District have been urged to refrain and ignite fight against use and sell of narcotics and illicit drugs by joining Police efforts to ensure the vice is prevented in the district.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Rogers Rutikanga, the Central Region Police Commander, appealed to hundreds of residents who turned for the event, to shun the trade and consumption of narcotics and partner with security organs in the fight against the vice, through Community Policing.

“Narcotic drugs are a big threat to life and they frustrate the capacity to make the right decisions. That is why those who abuse drugs end up committing all sorts of crimes. It is therefore imperative that we all join hands to protect our people from this scourge, especially the youth,” said ACP Rutikanga.

Vedaste Nsabimana, the Executive secretary of Remera Sector, commended the partnership with Rwanda National Police in anti-drug campaigns and other initiatives to prevent crimes, noting that crimes were being solved or prevented on time through community policing.

He challenged residents to work harder rather than engaging in drug abuse and other crimes that promote underdevelopment and insecurity.

During the event, residents also forwarded their grievances through the Police Mobile Station Vehicle, which was introduced last year to facilitate residents in distant areas to receive police services at their doorsteps.

The event was also attended by Senior Superintendent, Urbain Mwiseneza, the Director of Anti-Narcotic Drug in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
