Gasabo: Officials restrict uninsured residents to penetrate markets

{Uninsured residents of Gikomero sector in Gasabo district are restricted to enter markets without medical insurance membership cards as an urge to motivate them to pay the fund. }

This message was conveyed on 29th October, 2015 during the campaign held in Gikomero market motivating residents to pay medical insurance fund. It was prepared on partnership of Gasabo district and Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB).

Throughout the event, the executive secretary of Gikomero sector told residents that not paying medical insurance is taken as disobedience.

“A person who will be caught red handed without medical insurance will be taken as an insubordinate inciting negligence of fund among others. From Monday no business man/woman will be allowed to head for the market without insurance card.”He said.

Kemirembe Joy, RSSB official in charge of medical insurance in Gasabo district argues that citizens should not be deprived of their rights over non-payment of health guarantee.

“There have been remarked people unable to pay the fund. We organize meetings with partners to discuss how to pay for you. We had targeted that on 15th, citizens faced with lack of medical insurance fund would call RSSB 4044 free number to be assisted.” She said.

Nyirabahire, deputy officer of Gasabo district in charge of social welfare unveiled that Gikomero sector is ranked 14th among 15 district sectors in the payment of medical insurance fund.

“Since the beginning we shifted from 28th to 12th position. The critical place this sector holds encouraged us to share with you benefits of medical insurance to have a common perception. We have reached 74% as result of understandings.”She said.
Gikomero is one of rural sectors in Gasabo district.

Among 8153 citizens subjected to pay, only 68% has paid medical insurance fund a percentage expected to increase by 100%.
