{Peace and Hope Organization Initiative has received support from DHL Company which brought in South African medical Experts to provide Eye treatment services to about 150 elders who survived the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis residing in Kinyinya Sector of Gasabo District.}

This program, which has cost more than Five million Rwandan francs, has focused on people of advanced ages nearly all struggling with eye diseases.
Speaking to IGIHE, Mukankuranga, 70, one of those who have benefited from the medical service explained that she had eye problem for a long time to the point she could not read or see something which is faraway.
She says “I live with eye problem and had affected me so much. It is painful especially during night hours. When it is a dry season I can’t see to any further extent”
Fortunately, Mukankuranga said “since I get medical eyeglasses I can read bible, I can do knitting and many other small activities that previously were difficult to do.”
The Head of DHL Rwanda Julie Mutoni has explained that they have preferred to provide medical care to this group of people living with Eyesight problem and that contribute to their wellbeing.
She said that they invited Eye experts in order to consult them and treat them for free of charge bearing in mind how such services are expensive to vulnerable people like them.
Mutoni added that DHL has chosen to contribute to such activities in order to help disadvantaged people adding that the program will reach people living in 46 countries around the world where the company has established the branches.
Apart from contributing to Eye care services, DHL also gives support in dealing with disasters, medical services and many other services that support the wellbeing of citizens.
She says “Our Company has decided to give back to the citizens because they are also our clients. We support them in medical services, we give them food as well as many activities that contribute to their socioeconomic development.”

Albert Musabyimana, the CEO and Founder of Peace and Hope Initiative commended DHL for the Eyeglasses as well as medical solution to vulnerable elders adding that since this act the beneficiaries will be able to do what they could not if they still have the problem of seeing without glasses.
He says “DHL helps us reach the very special milestone in helping our parents who have been struggling with eyesight problems. The issue of eye problems is now put aside and we will keep helping them in dealing with other remaining problems. Where we will find ourselves unable we will advocate for them to our partners so as to get supported.”
PEACE & HOPE is made up of the heads of child headed families who have been playing the parental role for younger siblings since their parents deaths in the 1994 Genocide.
PEACE & HOPE was created so that the younger generation can have access to basic needs including a proper education, and nutrition and health care.

It has now started to support and advocate for childless elderly called”INCIKE” and since the launch of activities there was improvement in life of more than 500 Genocide survivors currently living in Kinyinya village
