Four Suspected Cannabis Dealers Arrested

The suspects who are detained at Kigabiro Police Station include Felicien Muvunyi 26, Emmanuel Urimubenshi 24, Jean Marie Simugomwa 31 and Nouredine Karekezi 17.}}

They were arrested on May 31 in Musha Sector, Musha cell.

According to Police in Rwamagana District, the suspects were arrested at Muvunyi’s house while smoking cannabis.

When the Police searched the house, they discovered 48kgs of cannabis hidden in the roof.

The District Police Commander in Rwamagana, Superintendent Richard Rubagumya confirmed the arrests.

He said, “We are still investigating with the help of these suspects where these drugs were destined to. The suspects might be working with a long chain of other criminals engaged in this trade and Police is doing its best to find out the truth,” added Supt Rubagumya.

Supt. Rubagumya further added that they are working closely with the community to give them real time information on such activities such that more drug dealers can be arrested.

He also hailed the cooperation with CPC’s for providing timely information.

In a related development, Police also arrested Nsengiyumva Fabien in Kirehe district with 3kgs of cannabis from Tanzania.

The suspects will be punished under article 594 of the penal code which stipulates that any person, who consumes, injects, inhales, anoints him/herself with or makes any other unlawful use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of one year to three years and a fine of Rwf50,000 to Rwf500,000.

It further states that any person who unlawfully, makes, transforms, imports, or sells narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances within the country, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of three years to five years and a fine of Rwf500,000 to Rwf5 million.
