Four medics arrested over death of pregnant woman

{Rwanda National Police (RNP) has proclaimed the arrest two doctors and two nurses of Rwinkwavu Hospital in Kayonza district, Eastern province over alleged crimes of disregarding a clinical procedure that resulted in the death of Aloysie Nikuze Umulisa, 30, during the caesarean operation carried on 16th October 2015. }

The spokesperson of RNP, CSP.Célestin Twahirwa told IGIHE that arrested Dr.Ndizihiwe Charles, Dr.Cyiza Francois Regis with two nurses Donathila Nyirambonigaba and Florien Ngaboyurwanda (anaesthetist at the hospital) are detained to Kabarondo police station since yesterday on 11th November 2015 as the investigation continues.

He added that the medics at the hospital are alleged to have disregarded the procedure and clinical guidelines during the operation.

The arrest follows the probe conducted by a committee of police staff, the association of midwives and nurses and the ministry of health to gauge their conducts over the death of a the mother at the hospital.

The investigation was preceded by the suspension of three doctors, a nurse and a top administrator at Rwinkwavu Hospital waiting for the outcomes of the investigation.
