{{Displaced Residents of Gishwati natural forest have said they are overwhelmed by the poverty since their relocation from the natural forest within the context of protecting the environment.}}
Currently, former Gishwati residents are living in Bigogwe Sector of Nyabihu District.
They say they are engulfed in deep poverty for lack of space for agriculture activities.
One of the displaced told IGIHE that even a daily meal is difficult to get blaming the relocation as the source of poverty.
Addoulatif Twahirwa, Nyabihu Mayor stated that as the district was taking into consideration the displaced ones, there were other income generating activities including Bigogwe VUP as well as giving immediate subsidies to the poor and elderly people.
Twahirwa also said that there was a large project of Rwf 30 million that provided chicken to residents.
“The Government has set up a commission to determine areas of crop and livestock that will be distributed soon,” says the Mayor.
Displaced persons in question have only one wish, that government promises are quickly put into action.
