Former Gicumbi mayor arrested over VUP funds

{Mvuyekure Alexandre, former Gicumbi district mayor was yesterday evening arrested by Northern Province police over alleged misappropriation of public funds.}

The Northern Province police spokesperson, IP Gasasira Innocent has told IGIHE that Mvuyekuru is alleged to have misappropriated public funds at a time he was the executive secretary of Rubaya sector in 2010 meant for VUP to support poor residents of the area.

Mvuyekure who is currently detained at Byumba police station was a mayor of Gicumbi district from August 2012 to February 2016.

He was the deputy vice mayor in charge of economic affairs in Gicumbi district before he became mayor.
