Former FDLR Fighters Urge Colleagues to Surrender

Former FDLR rebels have called upon their former colleagues still holedup in the jungles of DRC to surrender and return home.

The ex-rebels made the appeal at Mutobo Centre where they are undergoing a reintegration Course.

They sent a message to their former colleagues that wars will never have positive results.

The former rebels noted that they had been receiving rumours claiming that once they returned to Rwanda that they would be killed or jailed.

Coporal Aisha Nyaminani said there are so many FDLR fighters that wish to peacefully return; however, lack of accurate information prevents them to return home.

“Right now I am glad to be in my country, news which allege that once you arrive in Rwanda you get recorded and later be killed are mere rumours,” he said.

Former fighters said FDLR tortures those caught trying escape the forests on their way to Rwanda.

Maj. Rukundo Viviris who repatriated on 5th December, 2012 said that FDLR militias have no reason to fight adding that will never win the war.

“I decided to return because I realized FDLR has no power to win the war,” Maj. Rukundo said.
