{The civil society of North Kivu has announced that former combatants of the M23rebel group, defeated at the end of 2013, killed on Tuesday two local officials and two policemen in Bunagana in eastern DRC.}
Jeune Afrique reported that the attack took place in Bunagana, a former stronghold of the former rebel of the March 23 Movement (M23), routed early November 2013.
According to local civil society, “around 5 AM “suspected rebels of the former M23 stormed this Tuesday, March 17th a delegation of local authorities who was coming to inspect the Rucaca hotel, owned by a part of the ex-M23, now a refugee in Rwanda.”
The toll was heavy: four people killed. Kitsa, the deputy chief of station of the National Intelligence Agency (ANR), and two policemen died on the spot. The fourth victim, Boniface Ndujurahe, head of Jomba, seriously injured, died an hour later in a hospital, according to civil society in North Kivu, which issued a statement.
“The activities are paralyzed as well as in Bunagana Jomba. The Rutshuru territory safety committee has to go [there]” to assess the situation and initiate investigations, the statement said.
