Residents are worried over lacking compensation for destroyed properties during the construction of Musarara dam located in Rusasa sector of Gakenke district.
They say compensation of destroyed properties valued at Rwf 11 million has taken too long yet they were not even connected the electricity grid.
Banana plantations, beans and maize fields are among those that they seek compensation.
Nkundabatware Gervais, one of the victims said that the crops were destroyed but got nothing as compensation.
The executive secretary of Gakenke district who is also the acting mayor, Kansime James told media that payments are not supposed to come from the district adding that they have, however, advocated for their compensation.
He noted that SOGEMR company which constructed the dam, has made audits and a roadmap for compensation before the end of this week.
