{One passenger traveling in a canoe on Lake Kivu has died and five rescued and an unidentified number missing when a canoe they were oaring from Kagano sector to Nyabitekeri sector in Nyamasheke district, Western province capsized. }
Eye witnesses have told IGIHE that the canoe carried 18 passengers coming from Rwesero market in Kagano sector and capsized when it encountered a storm as it rained.
Rescuers have announced to have saved five passengers alive but a pregnant mother’s body was retrieved but others have since gone missing.
The executive secretary of Kagano sector, Munyankindi Eloi has said that they have not yet identified the number of missing passengers.
The passengers rescued have been taken to Munyange Health Center.
The canoe has also gone missing.
