Fire and Rescue Unit unearth three miners’ bodies

{The Fire and Rescue Unit at Rwanda National Police on November 25 unearthed two bodies of miners who had been trapped in a tunnel in Gikingo Cell, Gakenke District.

The victims were identified as 19 year old Wellars Dusengemungu, Jean Marie Vianney Bucyensenge and Vallens Ntabaresha who were both 21, working at Cooperative Minière Kababara-Gikingo.

The Northern region Police Spokesperson, Supt. Christophe Semuhungu, said that the trio died from suffocation after they had been trapped inside a mine by falling debris.

He urged miners to always be equipped safety tools like helmets and masks in order to avert such incidences.

He also appealed to mining investors to ensure the protection of their employees by ensuring that safety measures are always put in place before miners go inside tunnels.
