Final communiqué on the state visit of the president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, to rwanda

1. His Excellency Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, paid an official visit to the Republic of Rwanda from 14 to 15 July 2014.

2. The Head of State of Equatorial Guinea was accompanied by several high dignitaries.

3. This follow up visit comes in the context of a visit effected to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea by His Excellency Paul Kagame, where he attended the Assembly of the African Union Summit held in Malabo from 26 to 27 June 2014.

4. During his visit, His Excellency Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo had bilateral talks with his Rwandan Counterpart, followed by a working session between the two delegations. During these meetings, the two Heads of State and their delegations exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues.

5. The Head of State of Equatorial Guinea also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center to honor the victims of the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsis of Rwanda in 1994. Later on, he toured the Free Trade Zone located in Nyandungu, Gasabo District.

6. The Heads of State also held a fruitful exchange on African integration and solidarity.

ON BILATERAL MATTERS.

7. Both Heads of State welcomed the excellent relations of friendship and brotherhood existing between the Governments and Peoples of Equatorial Guinea and Rwanda.

8. The Heads of State commended the two Foreign Ministers for initiating a cooperation framework that strengthens existing relations, by signing a General Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea; particularly focusing on the following areas:

a. Governance,
b. Air transport;
c. Trade exchanges and investment promotion;
d. Tourism and Immigration;
e. Agro-industry;
f. Information and Communication Technology, (ICT);
g. Health;
h. Defense and Security;
i. Energy;
j. Housing Policy

9. The two Heads of State convened to hold the first Session of the Joint Commission in Equatorial Guinea during the first half of September 2014.

ON MULTILATERAL MATTERS INCLUDING AFRICAN AFFAIRS.

10. The two Heads of State expressed their concern on the security and humanitarian situation in the Central African Republic and pledged to intensify their joint efforts towards a lasting solution.

11. In this context, they acknowledged the need for African solidarity, South-South cooperation and search of African solutions to African problems.
