Filth, waste from Muhanga district headquarters put lives at risk

Muhanga residents living near the district head offices have complained over waste heaps and filth that have accumulated from district offices, getting their lives susceptible to immense health risks.

The design of district head office building, they said, did not consider a reserve for waste collection before disposal and therefore just let to flow about without any scientific treatment.

They say that they have talked to district leaders to no good results.
“The district must seek where to pour wastes from its offices. They should not lay waste in places from where they are swept to people’s homes,” said one resident who talked to a Kigali-based TV 1.

“The district must be exemplary. The leader will not encourage a citizen to embrace hygiene before he puts into action what he/she says,” said another resident.

Nzabonimpa Onesphore, the leader of One Stop Center in Muhanga district told TV1 that the waste mismanagement challenge is, most likely, emanating from the company that won the tender failing to fulfill its responsibilities.
