{Kellya Uwiragiye ,25,is one among 60 youths who received the award from The Queen of England Elizabeth II for her outstanding deeds in helping mute people with hearing disability through her established organizatio ‘Media for Deaf Rwanda’.}
The award ‘Queen’s Young Leaders Award’ will be handed to Uwiragiye in August 2017.
It is awarded to the youth between 18 and 29 who developed projects solving problems facing the world including education, climate change, gender equality and rights of disabled people in 54 countries from Commonwealh.
In an interview with IGIHE, Uwiragiye has said that the award was handed to her for her outstanding deeds transforming lives of deaf-mute people.
She explained that the award will help to realize her dreams of seeing such people contributing to country’s development like others.
“This award will increase our credibility because people have witnessef that our activities have the potential of contributing to national development.
It will encourage us to promote the education of deaf-mute people, remove barriers of isolating them to enhance their access to education like other children,” she said.
Media for the Deaf Rwanda runs various activities including collaboration through the media to make them included in national development.
