The artist was expected to land in Kigali on the evening of December 30th, 2019 but at around 9:40 PM yesterday, the artist who is known for his songs in the Rumba and N’simba genre, announced via his twitter account that he won’t be coming.
His message on Twitter read “To all my fans in Kigali, Bujumbura and Goma, it is with great regret that I would like to announce that I will not be able to travel for all my previously announced concerts. New dates to be announced soon! Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
The event was supposed to be held at Kigali Convention on December 31st, 2019 as Rwandans celebrate the New Year, 2020.
The organizing team, Rwanda Events Group Ltd immediately released a communiqué apologizing to fans who had already bought tickets to the show in masses. “Rwanda Events Group Ltd announces with regret that Fally Ipupa will be unable to perform during Kigali New Year Countdown on 31 December, 2019 as it was previously planned. Mr. Ipupa’s management team informed us that he was hospitalized in Abidjan at 3pm this afternoon. He communicated that he is ready to perform in Kigali at a later date. We wish Mr. Ipupa a speedy recovery.”
The announcement was not specific on what the artist has been hospitalized for in a way that he had to cancel his show at the last minute.
Rwanda Events mentioned that the tickets already purchased would be valid for the next scheduled show which date remains unspecified but that whoever needed a refund could call 0785800000 or email ticketing@events.rw asking for a refund.
Fally Ipupa was expected for the first time ever in Rwanda and was supposed to perform along Dj Toxxyk, Dj Shine from France, Dj Sinyorita from Tanzania and FEM Deejay from Uganda.
Organizers had announced entrance fees for regular tickets were Rwf 30,000 and Rwf 50,000 for VIP tickets. No Rwandan artist was part of the lineup.
