EU Suspends New Aid to Rwanda

The European Union says it’s suspending new aid to Rwanda because of alleged support of M23 rebels operating in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, EU spokesman said Tuesday.

“The EU is not interrupting ongoing projects, which are there to help the poor,” said Michael Mann, spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton.

“But EU is delaying decisions on additional budget support in the pipeline pending clarification of Rwanda’s role and its constructive engagement in search of solutions.”

However, Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Louise Mushikiwabo, reacted to the story by French news agency AFP, “The story…..is either old news or is designed to mislead,” said Mushikiwabo on her Twitter account, just a minutes after the story was published.
