The European Union Delegation issues the following statement in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Rwanda:
The EU Heads of Mission warmly welcome the ratification by Rwanda of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture on 30 June 2015.
With this ratification, Rwanda has reinforced its commitment to the effective prevention of torture and other forms of ill-treatment. The EU Heads of Mission consider the ratification an important step and encourage the Government of Rwanda to continue their efforts in promoting and protecting human rights in the country.
The EU stands ready to support Rwanda in implementing the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture.
