Electricity cut-offs mar Kamembe sector services delivery

{Residents of Rusizi district, Kamembe sector are getting frustrated over power shortage at the headquarters of the sector which has forced officials to use Gihundwe cell offices in case they want services requiring electricity like registration of new births, hence frustrating residents who have to walk longer distances to reach Gihundwe cell.}

The travel from Kamembe sector to Gihundwe cell where services requiring electricity are delivered takes Rwf 800 on a motorbike.

Daniel Nzacahayo, one of the residents who talked to IGIHE said that he and some other residents were asked to get services from Gihundwe cell when they went to register their children. He added that such unexpected movements waste their time and money.

Residents have therefore called upon local leaders to reconnect the sector offices.

The executive secretary of Kamembe sector, Ntivuguruzwa Gervais says that power shortage resulted from thieves that attempted to steal electric cables last year and damaged the power transformer that serves the area.

Ntivuguruzwa said that the matter has been reported to Rwanda Energy Group, Rusizi branch who have failed to handle the issue until it was taken to Rusizi district for assistance which also transferred the case to REG management at national level.
