{The Rwandan survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi under their umbrella organization IBUKA, the Netherlands Chapter, have issued a statement condemning irresponsible utterances made by a Hague Lawyer, Ms. Caroline Buisman, trivializing commemoration of the Genocide against Tutsis in Rwanda.The commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi is being commemorated globally by countless organizations and governments.}
Ms. Caroline Buisman, while in The Hague district court, made disparaging remarks that commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda is done to fulfill political agenda and a manipulation by the Rwanda Government. Caroline Buisman acts as legal counsel for Jean Claude Iyamuremye. The remarks were made Monday 6th June at the hearing of an extradition case; Dutch State Prosecution vs Jean Claude Iyamuremye and Jean Baptiste Mugimba.
During the hearing Ms. Caroline Buisman told court that “government’s commemoration of yearly 1994 Genocide against Tutsis events is political agenda and manipulation.” The survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in the Netherlands who were following the proceedings have strongly condemned, without reservations, Caroline Buisman for trivialization of the remembrance of victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
IBUKA says such a choking statement by Ms Buisman should be condemned by everyone. Her comment is an insult to the victims and a reversal of the hearing process that survivors have attained. Survivors are still in shock that a Dutch lawyer is capable of saying such a statement in a public hearing. Caroline Buisman intentionally advanced the double genocide theory insinuating that the Genocide is commemorated on April 6 and April 7! We very well know that the Genocide is commemorated on April 7. Those who commemorate on the sixth of April are genocide revisionists and deniers who try to confuse the international community by saying that in Rwanda there was a double Genocide.
For starters, Ms. Caroline Buisman client(s), the accused, Jean Baptiste Mugimba was the National Secretary of CDR political party, a party that was massively involved in the killing of Tutsis. Mugimba is alleged to have distributed arms in Nyakabanda cell and incited followers to kill Tutsis. And as of Iyamuremye, he is accused of having taken part in the killing of Tutsis who had fled to ETO in Kicukiro sector.The judgment of the duo’s case is scheduled for 5 July 2016.
IBUKA, and the all survivor of the Genocide against the Tutsi condemns such comments and demands that she apologizes to the survivors.
