Police in Goma district yesterday destroyed drugs of different types worth Rwf 4.9million.
According to the District Police Commander Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Janvier Mutaganda the destroyed narcotic drugs include; 668 liters of kanyanga, 163 kilgorams of cannabis and 1147 boules of cannabis.
The activity that drew residents of Karenge cell in Kibungo sector was also attended by local leaders.
SSP Mutaganda said that the seizure of the substances was due to the partnership with residents who always availed credible information on suspects.
He said that some narcotic drugs are sneaked into the country from neighboring countries.
He called upon residents to strengthen the partnership with security organs in order to fight and prevent narcotic drugs which he noted has different health negative effects.
He went on to say that destruction of drugs in public is aimed at showing the public the fight against such substance should be everyone’s concern.
“We invited the public, particularly the youths who are the main victims of drug abuse,” he said.
SSP Mutaganda warned the public that use of drugs attracted heavy penalties that could result to Rwf5 million fine and a five-year jail sentence.
One of the commercial motorcyclists who attended the event Venuste Munezero urged his colleagues to always provide the police with credible and timely information against drug traffickers.
