Diaspora Youth Urged to Be Good Ambassadors

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana appealed to Rwandan youth in diaspora maintain Rwandan values and be good ambassadors in their respective host nations.

The Police Chief made the call on July 20 while speaking to 273 Rwandan youngsters including students based abroad, who are undergoing a civic education at Gabiro School of Infantry in Gatsibo district under ‘Indangamirwa VII-2014.’

The annual two-week civic programme attended by participants from 17 countries started on July 14. It is also attended by students who are set to enrol in foreign schools.

IGP Gasana enlightened the students on the Rwanda National Police policing progress and challenges in the last14 years of its existence.

He said some of the government initiatives and policies like Ndi Umunyarwanda,One cow per household, universal education, good governance and zero stance have contributed greatly to the good well-being and unity of Rwandans which has and decreased crimes.

He outlined drug abuse, theft and domestic violence as crimes that are still high, but said the force initiated various strategies such as community-based policing, media and public awareness to jointly combat them.

“Rwanda is safe and secure and RNP remains devoted to its vision of making the people living in Rwanda feel safe, involved and reassured,” he said.

He however said the advancement of technology is aiding organised criminal groups to implement their evil plans, but added that the force put forward training and cooperating with regional and international police forces and bodies to foil their plans

IGP Gasana appealed to them to stay focused of their studies and give no ear to those that try to mislead them with their negative propaganda.

“The lessons are useful; they have reminded to stand firm to our values and protect the image of our country,” Salomé Tuyisenge, who is set to join Hongtu University in China, said.
