The Rwanda National Police development partners have commended the force for living up to its mandate of ensuring a secure country for all and pledged further support to accomplish its policing targets.
The continued support was pledged on June 25 during a half-day RNP-Partners meeting organized by the force, held at Umubano hotel.
The meeting aimed at showcasing the force’s achievements, challenges and future plans.
The Minister of Local Government, James Musoni said his docket is committed to support the force especially in areas of community policing while his counterpart in the ministry of Gender and family promotion, Oda Gasinzigwa said they are committed in fighting gender-based and domestic violence jointly.
“The partnership is important and should be reinforced. We are committed to expanding this partnership,” the One-UN resident Coordinator, Lamin M. Manneh, said.
He commended both the police and military forces for its outstanding and professional services on the international arena, especially in peacekeeping.
The UNHCR Country Representative, Neimah Warsame commended the force for extending the community policing strategy in refugee camps and pledged financial support in enhancing this concept.
The CEO of MTN, Khaled Mikkawi thanked the force for also prioritizing the IT-led policing, which he said has helped in combating high-tech related crimes.
The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana thanked all those who have supported the RNP to accomplish its mandate, adding that the force will
continue to “live up to its values for sustainable security.
The Minister of Internal security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana, who presided over the meeting said ensuring safety and security is “no longer one-way” as was the case in the past.
“To effectively counter the modern policing challenges, it requires concerted efforts of all stakeholders. “The journey to a crime-free society is not yet over, but the road has been made smooth by such partnership,” Minister Harelimana stated.
The meeting was also attended by heads of various government institutions, NGOs and transport companies, among others.
