Crops Uprooted for Terraces in Kayonza

{{Residents of Nyakanazi cell in Murama Sector of Kayonza District have expressed dissatisfaction about the manner in which terraces are being implemented in their area.}}

They told IGIHE that most of their crops have been uprooted yet the area has been affected drought in the previous months leaving most residents hungry.

The residents say the only crops they had planted owing to the recent rains were their only hope but the terracing program has brought their hopes down.

They thus demand for an immediate suspension of uprooting their crops saying priority should be given to crops instead of terraces.

Earlier this month, the Minister of Local Government James Musoni had warned local leaders against destroying farmers crops that have failed to comply with Crop regionalization policy.

The Minister also revealed similar incidences have been reported in Kayonza District where farmers were asked to destroy their sorghum.
