Congolese Villagers Form Militia to Repulse FDLR Rebels

{{Congolese resident in Kimua in Eastern DRC, have established their own force to repulse attacks conducted by the FDLR (Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda) rebels.}}

The new force known as FDC (Front De Liberation Du Congo) is comprised of local residents in zones mostly occupied by FDLR rebels.

FDC accuses the FDLR rebels for committing several atrocities against the local population including murder, rape, extortion and other inhuman acts.

The kimua community also argues that the UN mission in Congo-MONUSCO has failed to fulfill its mandate.

A member of the FDC militia said, “Everything is going well, because we have positive side, when we began operation, FDLR occupied the whole area, now they are no longer present.”

Guarded by the FDC militia group, the kimua village is inhabited by about 50 000 people mostly children.
