{Twenty construction and structural design students from Democratic Republic of Congo are visiting Rwanda on a study tour to learn from Rwanda’s experience of designing and constructing environmental friendly structures. }
The students who have been training for three days at Protestant Institute of Arts and Social Sciences (PIASS), Huye, were facilitated by experts in construction including Robert Muller from Germany and a Rwandan Eng Alphonse Kalisa Setako.
Robert Muller leads ‘Brot fur die welt’, a German corporation which provides support in construction-related activities to various African countries. He said that they have preferred to bring Congolese in Rwanda as a country which has attained commendable steps in environment friendly construction.
“We have provided support to construct some of PIASS buildings including classrooms, library and students’ accommodation. They had a good structural design which inspired us to bring Congolese so that they can emulate the practices of green building,” he said.
Some of the students from DRC told IGIHE that they have appreciated the way they shared experiences with Rwandans and commended good organization of development and construction activities in Rwanda.
“I have acquired knowledge by sharing with peers in Rwanda. I have realized how Rwandans are well organized,” said Marck Bagenda.
