Residents of Ubumwe village, Kanombe sector, Kicukiro district, have committed to being an exemplary locale whereof they have constructed a public water system benefitting twelve villages, have ensured that all residents around do access medical insurance and have formed a mediation committee for amicable conflicts resolution. All these, they say, are in a bid to build a sustainable sense of heroism that will be passed on even to the descendants.
Addressing the residents at Ubumwe village during the National Heroes Day celebrations, Members of Parliament, Nyiragwaneza Athanasie and Mukazibera Agnes, emphasized that being a hero is worked for through good deeds and that every Rwandan must embrace values and norms that define Rwanda with due consideration of patriotism and applying home-grown solutions.
The outgoing leader of Ubumwe village, Matata Jean Baptiste, commended residents for their participation in community and national development, arguing them to commit more towards transformation of households transformation.
“Residents of Ubumwe village have constructed a public water system at a cost of Rwf 1,800,000 serving 12 villages of Rubirizi sector and Kabeza. These development projects do define heroism of all of us,” he said.
He further said that they have also established a community organization called ‘Urukundo Family ’ which comprises of women and men that support resolution of conflicts and counseling as a way of fighting gender-based violence and promoting social cohesion.
The executive secretary of Kanombe sector, Nirere Marie Rose said that residents of Ubumwe village have over the years demonstrated a spirit of togetherness and zeal towards development.
