The incident occurred on Monday 2nd May 2022 around 4:00 p.m.
Investigations are underway to establish cause of the fire outbreak but it is suspected that it might have resulted from plugged in electronic gadgets.
Apart from destroyed properties, the fire injured one person who is admitted at Ntaruka Health center.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Alex Ndayisenga, the Regional Political and Civic Education officer (RPCEO) for the Northern region has urged residents to always be cautious as they plug in electronic devices.
“We urge residents to always check if there are no electronic gadgets connected to electricity that might trigger fire outbreak and avoid plugging in many items exceeding electric cables’ capacity,” he said.
“We also remind them to get their buildings insured so that they can be compensated in case of fire outbreak and rush to alert the Police when they see evidences of fire incident,” added SP Ndayisenga.
The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade rushed to intervene and put out the fire in collaboration with residents and other local authorities.
