CHUB staff fundraise for kidney patient

Doctors and nurses from the University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB) have fundraised Rwf 175, 500 to support a child suffering from kidney malfunction, as they joined the rest of the world to mark the International Day of Patients yesterday.

Various patients in CHUB received gifts and took opportunity to express views on how health care services can be improved.

Marking the day was preceded by a mass interceding for patients to get healed followed by social interaction through various dances and performances.

Talking to IGIHE, one of the patients Jean de Dieu Minani said that the occasion of marking the international day of patients is vital since it shows how much they are given attention and brings hope to the sick.

“I am delighted and you can see that other patients are also happy today. This act brings us in a mood where we can’t despair since people come close to us with good deeds of kindness,” he said.

Another patient Christophe Nsengimana said: “I used to shiver during these hours; but I have got out of the sickbay and feeling less pain. I am glad for this day.”

Dr. Augustin Sendegeya, the director general of CHUB said that the celebration is a good opportunity for health care service providers to get feedback and seek how to continuously improve services.

CHUB hospital accommodates patients from 15 districts in South and Western provinces.

The international day of patients was launched by Pope John Paul II in 1992 and is celebrated on 21st February every year across the World.
