Chimpanzees in the DRC have launched attacks on humans killing about 10 people and injuring 17.
The incidence took place in Tongo village 60 km north of Goma, in North Kivu in eastern DRC where a group of chimpanzees regularly attacks people.
A Congolese newspaper Syfia reported that in the past few months, 10 people were killed and 17 others seriously injured in these attacks by primates.
One of the reasons for this upsurge in attacks is the war in the region and would drive chimpanzees to leave their territory and feel threatened by man.
On June 24, the media reported a news item for less dramatic. A 2 year old daughter had been torn in the back of his mother during an attack of five monkeys.
Two days later, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital in Goma. And it is here that one case among many others.
Tongo is located on a quite dangerous area. Syfia reported that the village is not far from the Virunga National Park, the oldest national park in Congo on the border with Rwanda and Uganda.
Besides these testimonies assault primates, some rumor that chimpanzees violated women.
The case in the news in Goma. The people try to give an explanation for this new wave of attacks. A notable group of Bwito think that “these animals have long been attacked and killed by fighters for food.
