{Burera residents have raised concern for being frustrated by Butaro Hospital managers that keep them waiting for hours when they visit relatives admitted at the facility. }
Residents told IGIHE, they are requested to wait till noon even when they arrive way before that to visit patients transferred from health centers.
Iribagiza Clementine, a resident who IGIHE met waiting at the gate of Butaro Hospital on Thursday lamented the delaying acts of “waiting at the gates yet the pregnant women whom I have brought food have not eaten since yesterday.”
“I left home at around 4:30am, walked to this place where I reached at 10:30am, but been blocked from seeing the patients. The delay means I will return home late at night yet I have little kids to take care of including cooking for them,” she said.
“It’s better we are allowed to see patients as and when we arrive because we come from distant remote places,” she pleaded.
Narindwenimana Jean de Dieu from Rugengabari sector ,Nyanamo cell in Muramba village also expressed dissatisfaction for waiting long hours outside the hospital.
“I arrived around 9:30am. They restricted me from entering the hospital yet I arrived earlier. The hospital should establish many visiting periods per day to facilitate visitors,” he said.
Nduwayezu Jean Bosco, a motorcyclist who brought a visitor said they arrived at 8:00am but forced to wait for that long.
“We are too affected. I brought a passenger around 8.00 am but he has to wait till noon so we can return home,” he said.
The Butaro Hospital clinical director, Habimana Francois Regis has explained that it can’t be possible to allow people enter the hospital anytime they want.
“We receive visitors thrice a day; 8:00 am, between 13:00 and 13:30 hours and at the evening from 17:00 till 21:00 hours. We don’t allow them anytime because patients are not treated in private rooms. It is not good to visit patients when they are getting medical attention.” he said.
Habimana explained that they feed resident patients.
Inaugurated in 2006, Butaro Hospital receives patients from various health centers of Burera district.
