Care International delegation commends Isange One Stop Center

A delegation from CARE International that has been in the country for a congressional trip focusing on women’s empowerment in Rwanda has commended the country’s comprehensive approach in responding to victims of gender based violence.

The team composed of 11 officials from CARE International Learning Program arrived in Rwanda on February 14 visiting several institutions among them includes Isange One Stop Center that they toured on Wednesday and expressed their appreciations towards Rwanda’s approach in responding to Gender Based Violence(GBV).

The delegation was received by Superintendent of Police (SP). Shafiga Murebwayire, the Coordinator of Isange One Stop Center, who briefed them on the history and services the center renders to victims of GBV and child abuse.

In her remarks in the visitors’ book, the Founding Director of the Global Women’s Institute at George Washington University, Dr Mary Ellsberg wrote, “Congratulations on your work for women’s rights.”

“Within the framework of ending violence against women and girls, One UN has been supporting Rwanda to conduct Command Post Exercise (CPX) dubbed ‘Africa UNiTE – Ending Violence Against Women and Girls’ which brings together of security organs participants from almost all African countries as well as regional bodies,” said Maerien.

Isange One Stop Center is currently undergoing a wide expansion of which it would be scaled up in 23 districts before the end of 2016.

Maerien added that among the major milestone registered by Rwanda include the launch of HeForShe Campaign by His Excellency President Paul Kagame that helps address underlying factors preventing women and girls from realizing their full potential.

Isange One Stop Center , as of to date has been scaled-up to seventeen district hospitals across the country, offers free medical, psycho-socio and legal services to victims of GBV and child abuse.
