Canadian court sentences former Umuseso journalist to 32 months for sexual assault of minors

His case was tried by Saint Joseph Court in Canada as reported by a Canadian newspaper, La Voix du Sud.

Mbonigaba, 45, was convicted last April of four of the seven charges against him.

The charges were related to touching and sexual assault on three teenage girls between September 2012 and June 2014, as well as computer lures.

Judge Jean-Paul Aubin also ruled that he provides a DNA sample, a 10-year weapons prohibition, and upon release, prohibited from going close to places frequented by three-year-olds.

He was also declared a sex offender in perpetuity.

Mbonigaba’s case was heard in a closed session and since July 2016, a rule preventing the disclosure of the details of the proceedings had been released.

Mbonigaba worked for Umuseso Newspaper before he left Rwanda to Canada where he worked as a volunteer at Alpha Bellechasse Foundation which later sacked him.
