Burundi President Thanks Rwanda for Intervention in Fire Fight

Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza has thanked Rwanda for promptly intervening in the fight against fire that gutted down Bujumbura central market last month.

“We take this opportunity to sincerely thank our brother country, Rwanda, the spontaneity of intervention to extinguish the fire that ravaged the market,” said President Pierre Nkurunziza.

He made the remarks Friday, February 1st during the exchange of vows ceremonies with representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps accredited to Burundi.

Rwanda has sent an emergency helicopter to Burundi to help firefighters control the fire which destroyed Sunday, January 27 central market in Bujumbura.

Two people have already been arrested in connection with the preliminary inquiry into one of the major disasters of recent times in Burundi.
