Burera: residents sensitised on security, hygiene

{Residents of Burera District have been urged to observe maximum security and hygiene as essential factors for the social wellbeing.}

This was part of the message delivered in a house-to-house campaign conducted by the District Police Unit and members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing,that aimed at improving community health practises and community policing methods.

According to Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Phelin Nshimiyumukiza, the District Community Liaison Officer, the campaign targets about 2700 households, with so far 1000 families covered.

“We started this campaign on January 5 and we have so far covered 12 out of 15 sectors,” said AIP Nshimiyumukiza.

On Wednesday, the group composed of police officers and youth volunteers conducted the campaign in Bugarama Sector.

“Security and social development go hand-in-hand; we need to ensure that citizens are secure at all fronts,” he said.

Gervais Ngembe, the coordinator of youth volunteers in Burera lauded the present collaboration between the masses and security organs and said this has led to the prevailing peace and security in communities.

He reiterated the need to observe sanitation and hygiene for good health. He said that observing hygiene is less costly than the consequences of catching communicable diseases related to poor sanitation, which can as well be a security issue.
