{University of Global Health Equity, an international university is set to be built in Butaro sector of Burera district at an estimated cost of USD 100 million ( Rwf 78 billion) with works expected to begin June 2016.}
For Butaro residents, the introduction of the university close to them signifies among others another milestone in development activities.
“Our children will continue studies in the university without necessarily going abroad,” said one resident Nsanzimana Donat.
“It was a dream for us to have big infrastructures like airports, universities and stadiums .We thought they are reserved for Kigali but we thank the government for bringing such ,” said another Nyiransabimana, a 60-year old woman.
The project of launching the university is backed by Partners in Health which collaborates closely with Harvard Medical School of America.
University of Global Health Equity has been operating in Eastern Province, Rwanda since 2015 by carrying out on-job training of nurses.
The branch to be built in Butaro is expected to be the headquarters of University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda.
Jerret Collins, an officer with the University said that they have a vision of training and release competent, nurses and health experts in Rwanda.
He explained that they have already earned cooperation with the government of Rwanda.
