Other fishermen fishing in lake Cyohoha heard someone screeming and quickly came to his rescue and found his testicles had been chopped off by a hipo in the lake.He was later taken to ADEPR health center in Bugesera.
Rilima Sector authorities told IGIHE that such incidences are caused by fishermen that illegally enter the lake without boats and most of whom do not belong to fishing cooperative Associations.
Gasirabo Gaspard the Executive Secretary of Rilima sector said this is not the first incidence of fishermen being attacked by animals in the lake, “very often they get attacked by animals in the lake but they have refused to refrain from illegal fishing”.
The fisherman whose identity has not been disclosed is said to have illegally gone fishing in the lake after another fisherman had been eaten by a hippo in the same lake the previous night.
