The 9-year-old child, residents say, was playing around the pond before he slipped in, but there was no one to rescue him.
The child was unattended to, residents say. The body was taken to Kacyiru hospital for postmortem as investigations continue to establish more details surrounding the child’s death.
Central Region Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Urbain Mwiseneza warned parents to stop abandoning their children.
He appealed to them to watch over their children and interact with them on developmental subjects and act responsibly and inform on time fire rescue brigade to intervene to rescue such children from such dangerous places.
The child’s parents could be charged with manslaughter, which is punishable with a two years jail term and a fine of up to Frw2m.
