Belgium Refuses to Take Sanctions Against Rwanda

Belgium government says it will take time for any sanctions against Rwanda, suspected of supporting the Congolese M23 rebels said the Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.

“To this day, I do not want to take a different attitude than respect the proceedings pending before the Security Council,” Didier Reynders told Belgian deputies.

Asked about a possible suspension of development aid that Belgium provides in Rwanda, Didier Reynders said that his country would not act out of a joint decision of the European countries without a position of the Security Council of the United Nations.

Head of Belgian diplomacy calls for dialogue between Rwanda and the DRC.

“Only a dialogue between Congolese and Rwandan presidents will solve the crisis,” he said.
