The funding has been provided by the Facility for Energy Inclusion Off-Grid Energy Access Fund (FEI OGEF).
It is the first time FEI OGEF provides funding since inception last year. The fund will be utilized to empower BBOXX activities to expand solar home systems as explained by Mansoor Hamayun, CEO and Co-Founder of BBOXX said that the funding will
“We are delighted to receive this funding. It will help us to expand coverage of solar home systems in Rwanda. It will also support our goal to transform people’s livelihoods and paving their way for starting businesses facilitated by off-grid energy made available in Rwanda,” he said.
“The grant replicates credibility for our investment and capacity to offer trusted and affordable off-grid electricity,” added Mansoor.
BBOXX has connected over 80,000 homes with electricity across the country.
BBOXX provides solar panels and easily rechargeable lamps among other accessories including power saving televisions and radios. It targets remote areas with no access to grid electricity.
BBOXX began operations in Rwanda in April 2014. It has established different shops where clean energy solutions are made available.
