Ban Urges DRC to collaborate with MONUSCO to End FDLR

{The United Nation Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has recommended the DRC Government to cooperate with the UN mission to conduct “effective military operations” against the Rwandan rebels of the FDLR. The recommendation was made on Monday 16 while speaking on the activities of MONUSCO .}

The Secretary General of the UN said he was also concerned about the numerous violations of human rights that continue to be committed in the DRC by both armed groups and by elements of the national security forces.

He urges Kinshasa to work closely with MONUSCO and the Intervention brigade to plan and implement “effective military operations against the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, bringing the necessary attention to the protection of civilians.”

The Secretary General of the UN is also appalled by the atrocities that Ugandan ADF rebels continue to commit in North Kivu.

He says his concern including rape, arbitrary arrests and torture committed by both armed groups and national security forces.

The Secretary General of the UN urges the government to speed up measures for the protection of human rights and to cooperate with MONUSCO to fight against impunity.
