{The director for Africa and Middle East of the Foreign Ministry (Mirex), Ambassador Joaquim do Espírito Santo, said on Sunday in Luanda that there has been no progress in the disarmament of the FDLR forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) process.}
The diplomat made these remarks to reporters when assessing the preparatory work of the Third Joint Meeting of the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs of SADC/ICGLR, at the Angolan capital.
“We found that insecurity in the DRC still prevail due to the continuation of military actions perpetrated by negative forces”, he said.
The Angolan diplomat said that when the ministers discuss this issue they might recommend to the Heads of State for the position that had been already taken that if the deadline is not met by the FDLR forces and no evolution is recorded, military actions will be taken to force fighters to surrender.
What is happening is that there was virtually no change, but the deadline is still in force, which means that efforts should be made so that evolution in the process can be recorded.
