Luanda — Committee of Defence Ministers of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) are meeting Tuesday in Luanda to discuss the current situation of peace and security in the region of the African continent, beset by some internal conflicts.
The extraordinary meeting, to be chaired by the chairperson of the Committee of Defense Ministers of ICGLR, Angolan João Lourenço, is being preceded by another event gathering regional chiefs of the General Staff and heads of Intelligence, underway since Monday in Luanda.
The meeting is taking place under the guidance of Chief of General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, Army General Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda.
Angola, under President José Eduardo dos Santos, takes on a two-year rotating chairmanship of the ICGLR, whose term began in January this year.
The ICGLR comprises Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic (CAR), Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
