The project was announced yesterday when the Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) and affiliated institutions were discussing with parliament’s National Budget and Patrimony Committee on Budget for Fiscal Year 2018/2019 and Budget Framework Paper 2018/2019-2020/2021.
Rwanda Housing Authority Director General, Eric Serubibi said that they plan to construct the roofing for the whole stadium spectators’ stands as today, only a small part is covered.
Also, Petit Stade which hosts basketball and volleyball games will be renovated as of the preparation of the African Basketball Championship slated to take place in Kigali next year.
Speaking to IGIHE, Serubibi said that the feasibility study for Petit Stade has been completed, but that of Amahoro Stadium will be completed by mid-May.
“When the feasibility study is completed, the next phase will be tender delivery, which it is expected at the end of this month,” he said.
He said that the renovation activities will take the period of between ten months and one year. Serubibi did not reveal the budget for the whole renovation activities.
During the renovation period, the Ministry of Sports and Culture which operates in Amahoro Stadium will be temporarily relocated.
Also three stadiums, he said will be constructed in Nyagatare, Bugesera and Ngoma Districts, and construction works for Huye Stadium will be finalized.
